We had a great time today making Christmas Crafts with our friends and families! Look at our creations! This half term we have had great fun learning about the pitch, pulse, melody and rhythm of the song Mamma Mia by Abba. We practised an instrumental version using glockenspiels and perfected our performance skills by singing the song. Oh wow! What an amazing day Year 4 have had today! We were very lucky to take part in a Science workshop by the Mad Science Company. We learned all about 'matter' and how matter can exist as a solid, liquid or a gas. We created a Polymer by combining PVA and Borax to make 'Slime' and then investigated Dry Ice (Solid Co2) and what happens to it when hot water is added. We saw that the Dry Ice turns from a solid, straight to a white gas which filled the room! It was like sitting on a cloud! We made our own volcano out of foil and salt dough and then we made them 'erupt' using the chemical reaction between Vinegar and Bicarbonate of soda. Adding a little washing up liquid, meant that we could 'see' the invisible gas given off as bubbles which ran down the side of our volcano like lava! Phew! Take a look at out photos to see how much fun we had! In Year 4 we start to use Google Drive. This gives us access to the wonderful world of the internet. To prepare us for getting our Google log-in, we have been looking at Internet Safety and how to be safe and secure online. We used Purple Mash to create an E-Safety poster to remind us if the SMART Rules. S - Safe, M - Meet, A - Accepting, R - Reliable, T - Tell!
In Art, we have started to look at Pop Art and the work of Lichtenstein and Warhol. We created Pop Art bookmarks of our own names and are starting to design our own POW words (Onomatopoeia). Look at how we are getting on so far...
Our Maths lessons so far have been all about Number and Place Value - Understanding how numbers work. We did a fun Emoji Maths Activity where we had to hunt the Emoji's to create a key and than use the key to complete number sentences!
In our Science lessons, we have been learning all about the different States of Matter - Solid, Liquid and Gas. We completed activities in groups to decide which States of Matter various materials were in and created a Venn diagram to represent them. We then completed an observation of Solids that behave like a liquid and looked at the more closely using a magnifying glass. Can you explain why solids such as sugar, salt and sand behave like a liquid. i. e they can be poured and take the shape of the container that they are in? |
